PowerShell is an automation platform and scripting language for Windows and Windows Server that allows you to simplify the management of your systems.

As a simple example, I will write powershell scripts to traverse event logs on a bunch of servers and search for faulty events and this can be extended to run on a given schedule. It's sheer innovation.
